Ford Unveils 2027 F-150 Specs and Features With New 3.0L Base V6 Engine

Ford Unveils 2027 F-150 Specs and Features With New Base Engine and Hands-Free Towing

Ford Motor Company released detailed specifications and feature updates for the 2027 Ford F-150 on September 15, 2026. The updated pickup lineup introduces a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 base engine, expands availability of the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, adds hands-free BlueCruise with Towing technology, and debuts a dedicated Carhartt Package tailored for work truck buyers.

Revised Powertrain Lineup and Expanded V8 Availability

The primary hardware update for the 2027 F-150 is the arrival of a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 as the standard engine. Replacing the outgoing 2.7-liter V6, the new 3.0-liter engine shares core block architecture with high-output variants found in performance applications. Output ratings stand at 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, matching previous peak numbers while reaching maximum torque 1,250 rpm lower in the rev range. This lower-rpm torque delivery gives drivers quicker response when pulling away from stops or hauling equipment. Base towing capacity remains at 8,400 pounds, and maximum payload capacity holds at 1,775 pounds.

Ford also expanded availability of its 5.0-liter V8 engine across the full trim hierarchy. The 400-horsepower naturally aspirated V8 returns to King Ranch and Platinum trim levels for the first time since 2023, allowing commercial buyers and retail customers to specify eight-cylinder power on every model from XL through Platinum.

The broader engine lineup continues to offer targeted power choices for specific commercial applications. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 retains its position as the maximum towing engine with 400 horsepower, 500 pound-feet of torque, and a 13,500-pound maximum towing rating. The 3.5-liter PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 generates 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque while providing optional 2.4-kilowatt or 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard mobile power generation for jobsite tools.

Expanded powertrain options arrive alongside growing coverage for commercial operators. Fleet managers evaluating light-duty trucks can review our update on Ford Pro warranty protection for fleet customers.

Hands-Free Towing Technology and Off-Road Packages

Software enhancements for 2027 focus on driver assistance during trailer transport. BlueCruise with Towing extends hands-free highway driving capability while pulling a trailer on qualified divided highways. The system operates without increasing subscription fees and comes equipped on every 2027 F-150 configured with BlueCruise functionality.

To provide accessible off-road hardware for budget-conscious buyers, Ford introduced lower-priced trim variants for Tremor and Raptor models. A new base Tremor model builds on the STX trim, offering heavy-duty suspension components, off-road shocks, and protective skid plates at a reduced starting price. Similarly, a revised entry-level Raptor configuration streamlines interior convenience features to lower entry costs for commercial operators requiring off-road capability.

Exterior styling updates across the 2027 lineup include seven redesigned grilles engineered to maximize cooling airflow during heavy load conditions. Updated wheel designs, signature lighting, and three new paint options, including Burnt Sand, Neptune Blue, and Wild Green Tinted Clear Coat, complete the visual revisions.

Tracking model line updates remains essential as commercial truck demand shifts across work truck categories. Dealerships and fleet executives can analyze the latest commercial truck sales figures and market momentum across the industry.

Dedicated Carhartt Package and Market Availability

The 2027 model year introduces the F-150 Carhartt Package, developed in collaboration with the workwear brand. Available on 4×4 XLT Crew Cab models, the package includes a cowl hood, a modified grille, 20-inch Carhartt wheels, off-road running boards, two-tone seat covers, tan accent stitching, and heavy-duty floor mats.
