Truck Bodies & Equipment International has introduced SafeSync™, an intelligent dump body control system designed to help prevent unsafe actions during Class 8 dump truck operations.
The system combines real-time monitoring, automated interlocks, operator warnings and diagnostic capabilities. Rather than simply alerting an operator after a dangerous condition develops, SafeSync is designed to recognize specific operating conditions and stop certain actions before they create an accident or damage equipment.
For fleets operating heavy dump trucks, the technology addresses risks associated with vehicle speed, changing terrain, raised bodies, power take-off operation and overhead hazards.
Controls Designed Around Dump Truck Risks
Dump truck operators routinely work in changing environments where one incorrect action can damage a vehicle, disrupt a job site or cause a serious safety incident.
A tarp deployed while a truck is traveling at highway speed can be damaged. A raised dump body can contact a bridge, utility line or other overhead obstruction. Excessive engine speed while the power take-off is engaged can also damage hydraulic or mechanical components.
SafeSync evaluates operating information and coordinates the truck’s dump-body functions around predefined safety conditions. Depending on the situation, the system can warn the operator or prevent a potentially unsafe movement.
TBEI says the platform can:
- Block certain dump-body movements when operating conditions are unsafe
- Monitor vehicle speed, slope, grade and dump-body angle
- Limit body height near overhead hazards
- Prevent tarp operation at unsafe vehicle speeds
- Protect the power take-off system when engine speed rises beyond an acceptable range
- Deliver targeted visual and audible warnings
- Provide diagnostic information for technicians
The combination of monitoring and active intervention distinguishes the system from a conventional control panel that only responds to direct operator commands.
Supporting Operators Without Slowing the Job
Safety technology is most effective when operators can understand and use it without adding unnecessary steps to their work.
SafeSync combines touchscreen visibility with physical controls, giving operators access to system information while retaining tactile inputs suited to vocational work environments. Alerts are intended to tell the driver what condition needs attention rather than presenting a generic fault message.
The system also gives technicians access to operating information and identified malfunctions. Faster access to that information could help service teams diagnose problems more efficiently and return equipment to service sooner.
SafeSync is intended to supplement—not replace—operator training, job-site procedures and required vehicle inspections. Its role is to add another layer of protection when operating conditions create risk or an operator makes an unintended command.
Tested in Working Fleet Environments
According to TBEI, SafeSync builds on more than 15 years of electronic-control-system experience.
The technology underwent more than two years of real-world fleet trials in demanding operating environments before its commercial introduction. Units are already operating in the field, allowing TBEI to evaluate how the controls perform during normal vocational use.
Field validation is particularly important for dump truck technology because the equipment must continue operating around dirt, vibration, temperature changes, moisture and heavy loads.

That distribution model allows the control system to be integrated with the body and related equipment during the upfit process.

SafeSync reflects a larger shift within commercial vehicle upfitting. Truck bodies are increasingly being designed as integrated systems in which sensors, electronic controls and software work alongside traditional hydraulic and mechanical components.
For dealers and upfitters, that change increases the importance of understanding how the chassis, body, power take-off, tarp and control system communicate. For fleets, it creates an opportunity to address safety and equipment protection during the vehicle-specification process instead of adding disconnected products later.
