GM Unveils 2027 V8s, TBEI Launches SafeSync Controls, and Volvo Rolls Out ‘Lock-and-Leave’ OTA Updates
The commercial vehicle industry is moving fast, and this week’s CVBNetwork Newscast covers three major updates spanning the light-duty and heavy-duty markets.
First, General Motors revealed its new sixth-generation V8 engines for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. The lineup includes a 6.6-liter option that GM states is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the light-duty pickup segment.
For the vocational and heavy-duty sectors, TBEI launched SafeSync, an intelligent dump body control system for Class 8 dump trucks. The technology continuously monitors vehicle speed, grade, and dump body angle to interlock unsafe actions, such as deploying a tarp at highway speeds or operating the PTO at unsafe RPMs.
Finally, Volvo Trucks rolled out unattended “Lock-and-Leave” Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates. Available across the U.S. and Canada, the feature allows drivers to begin a software update, lock the truck, and walk away during a scheduled break, significantly reducing unplanned dealership stops.
